PRESENTATION

We are pleased to announce the first edition of UCA Fall program on Complex Systems from the 18th to the 29th of October 2021

Due to the sanitary situation, the school will be held both virtually and on-site, the first week in Nice, Parc Valrose, and the second week in Fréjus, Villa Clythia

The Academy “Complex Systems” of Université Côte d’Azur promotes interdisciplinary research on the analysis and applications of complex systems. Involved teams and laboratories cover a vast range of disciplines, including astrophysics, biology, chemistry, computer sciences, Earth sciences, engineering, mathematics, and physics.

The Academy organizes a yearly fall program on a specific topic selected for its broadness and timeliness. The purpose is to gather world-renowned experts and young researchers, with various backgrounds, in order to cross-fertilize ideas and promote novel developments in complex systems research. The program includes survey lectures and provides the opportunity to develop a collaborative project. The preliminary results obtained during the program are expected to be of sufficient significance and novelty to lead to publications.

The 2021 fall program is dedicated to motile active matter, specifically on micro-swimming, locomotion into a complex fluid, mechanical aspects of self-propulsion, on emergent collective behaviors such as swarming, flocking and active phase separation, and on the applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence to model, optimize, and control displacement strategies of self-propelled entities, from bacteria to microrobots.

THEMATIC

The school is open to all PhD students, post-doctoral and permanent researchers interested in mobile active matter and wishing to get involved in a collaborative work in one of the following topics :

  • Swimming into complex environment - micro-swimming
  • Collective motion
  • Machine learning applied to active particles

PhD students and post-doctoral researchers will have to choose one of these three main topics in order to be assigned to a research project. It is expected that the preliminary results obtained from these research projects are of sufficient significance and novelty to be published.

Permanent researchers working in mobile active matter are welcome to follow courses and lectures of the school, and are invited to suggest a research project in one of the main topics in order to be supervisor of this project during the project sessions of the school.

SANITARY INFORMATION

A valid health pass will be asked on Monday, October 18 for your first entry to Campus Valrose in Nice, and another valid health pass will be asked on Sunday, October 24 for your entry to Villa Clythia in Fréjus (« health pass » : proof of the full vaccination against Covid-19, or a negative test result within the last 72hrs, or a proof of recovery from Covid-19 of at least 11 days and no more than 6 months old).
